Threats to our civil liberties result from abuses of power by the government. We represent clients whose civil rights have been violated, which rights are set forth in the Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, the New York State Constitution, and Civil Rights Acts, to name a few.
When limits to authority by Police and law enforcement officers, prosecutors and district attorneys, prison guards are exceeded, the results are abuses to your civil rights. A lawsuit against a government agency may be brought for different purposes: It may request monetary damages and costs from the government or, and just as important, can lead to changes in governmental policies and behavior, such as the recent changes to the NYPD stop and frisk policy and the collection of records which was the result of private litigation brought by the victims of civil rights abuses.
