Pappas, Cox, Kimpel, Dodd & Levine, P.C. offers its expertise in Federal Court matters. Federal Courts have jurisdiction over issues mentioned or referred to in the United States Constitution. Within the Federal Court system, as in the State Court systems, there are two levels; the first being the Trial Courts and the second, the Appellate Courts. Federal Trial Courts are called U.S. District Courts, and are courts of original jurisdiction, which means they are the first courts to hear either a civil or criminal case. If the parties to a matter are not satisfied with the decision of The U.S. District Court, they may ask an Appellate Court, called a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, to review the District Court’s decision. Thereafter, appeals can be made to the United States Supreme Court which cases usually involve questions about the Constitution or Federal Laws.
